Historic
But
a few steps from the town of Ath, in the middle of meadows
and ditches fed by the River Dendre, the Château of
Irchonwelz takes us back into our past.
Consisting of an irregular outer wall from the 13th Century,
made with limestone rubble, varying between 1.5 and 2 metres
in thickness, at a height of up to 8½ metres, reinforced
with flat-faced and rounded buttresses.
The château of Irchonwelz is characterised by its
original double entrance with a remarkably preserved doorway
in well squared-off stonework.
