What is the significance of Urchon ?

The Brasserie des Géants is situated at Irchonwelz (Ath). The meaning of the name Irchonwelz consists of "Irchon" for urchin or hedgehog and "welz" pour un fording place across the River Dendre.

The castle was originally surrounded by ditches and marshes. Even today the ground is still very damp and is a favoured place for our friends the hedgehogs.

In local dialect, a hedgehog is an "Urchon" and the inhabitants of Irchonwelz are also Urchons.
